Goebel was a post-impressionist painter of the American Southwest landscape. Born in Austin, Texas he was educated at the University of New Mexico and Colorado Institute of Art before settling in Taos, New Mexico. Known as a brilliant colorist and for his interest in painting a variety of subject matter he was also known as a master teacher in the later years of his career. He was a founding member of the "Taos Six" Society of Arts and was also an Academician of the National Academy of Western Art. During his twenty year career he produced a large ouvre of works, had many solo exhibitions and was featured in publications like "Southwest Art" and "Artists of the Rockies".
