A George III Gentleman's desk Library or writing table in mahogany with inlaid satin wood, in the manner of Gillows of Lancaster. Rectangular double rising, ratcheting molded edge top over five faux drawer facades, pull out fall front drawer. The interior adjustable slant writing surface lined with green baize slides open to reveal six alphabetical filing compartments with inlaid stringing on lids. Three of the compartments on left with center document storage space and three compartments on right. Centered arch knee hole with pedestals left and right with graduating drawers. The back side with faux drawers. The desk sits on a raised and molded wide plinth base. The drawers were later fitted with locks attributed to Joseph Bramah. (1748-1814) late 18th century, early 19th century, England.
The top is adjustable and will slant and hold a large folio, up to 23" H, facing either front or rear.
