A George II mahogany pier / tea / games / writing bureau-table. The mahogany top is supported on a hinged back leg when opened. The top when opened conceals the game table and a harlequin pop-up cabinet which contains drawers and paper pigeon holes. All rests on cabriole legs and ball and claw feet.
This table reflects the George II French style and fascination for metamorphic furniture as favored in the 1730s for fashionable London parlors and reception rooms.
