An elaborately carved and gilded Venetian Rococo-style console / pier table with beautifully dressed blackamoor servant kneeling on a tasseled red cushion and pointing to his eye, an Italian hand gesture that may mean "WATCH OUT" or "HE THINKS HE'S SMART" / "IT'S SMART" (see attached images) with a faux marble top
the servant's gilded coat is decorated with sgraffito (incised decoration) flowering vines, the carved and gilded background and support for the table top is beautifully symmetric and may well have been added later, as the figure and the structure of the table are separate elements joined together (see images of the back)
18th century carved blackamoor figure with later19th century carved and gilded elements attached to make a console / pier table, Italy (VENICE)
