A snuff mull is a substantial snuff container created to sit on a sideboard or side table and shared among diners as an act of friendship.
The word "mull" comes from the Scottish dialect term for "mill", referring to the mills used to grind tobacco leaves. Snuff mulls were often made from rams' horns, which kept the snuff dry.
